About the Daily Workshops

The Charles Bridge, Prague, by Rod Cameron

Rod Cameron develops these workshop sessions for all levels of painting experience. They are geared towards helping artist to deepen their insights in painting with oils and jumping to “the next level.”  Discussions regarding composition, design, color harmony and painting with a workable palette, both in the studio and out on location, will further the artists understanding of the fundamentals as well as the finer points.  Focusing on a simplified process, the step by step method to creating a successful plein air painting will be just one of the topics discussed throughout the five day session.

Favored materials list is provided upon request. Palettes and colors pertaining to painting outdoors, shooting good photo reference while on location ( then using it in the studio), time management while painting on location, composing your paintings using a simplified step by step technique, and ideas about finishing your location paintings will be the main thrust of the sessions.

Rod shows you how to make a simple, expressive start on your work and a logical three step approach to finishing the painting.

Other topics will include:   using Golden Geometry as the old masters - for composition, creating a strong focal point, working with edges, light & shadows, modeling forms, city perspective, drawing and color harmony.

Each day we meet and go together through the street to the designated painting sites. (Perhaps a vista that inspired famous poets as they strolled these narrow streets.  Maps are provided and suggested painting sites are encouraged by participants.  Trollies, metros, and taxis provide easy transportation. No rental car is needed at all! Each day the painting session will take us to a different location in Prague, plus one train ride excursion in the country.  There will be time for sight seeing, dining, shopping and entertainment. Information, communications and maps are provided to find what your heart desires in the World Class, Destination City.
